Water, Pantanal, Fire Exhibition in London

The Pantanal has gained international attention with the opening of the Water Pantanal Fire exhibition at the Science Museum in London, one of the leading science museums in the United Kingdom. The event, which brings global visibility to the biome, featured the participation of Mario Haberfeld, founder and CEO of Onçafari.

Created by Documenta Pantanal, the exhibition offers an immersive experience in the world’s largest tropical wetland revealing its grandeur, biodiversity, and the growing impacts of climate change and wildfires that threaten its existence. Its appearance in the United Kingdom expands the reach of an agenda that, although rooted in Brazil, is global by nature.

The Pantanal covers approximately 150,000 km² and is home to one of the highest concentrations of biodiversity in the world, including the jaguar. The biome also plays a fundamental role in water regulation, climate balance, and carbon capture. In recent years, however, severe droughts and historically unprecedented fires have highlighted its vulnerability and reinforced the urgency of conservation efforts.

Conservation Connecting Brazil and the United Kingdom

Onçafari’s work began in the Pantanal. For the past 15 years, the organization has worked in wildlife conservation, habitat preservation, monitoring Brazilian fauna, fighting wildfires, and engaging local communities promoting sustainable livelihoods and strengthening coexistence between people and nature.

Now, Onçafari is advancing its international strategy, expanding its presence abroad, participating in global forums, and strengthening alliances that position the biome and its mission at the center of biodiversity discussions.

On the evening prior to the exhibition’s opening, Mario Haberfeld was received at the residence of Ambassador Antonio Patriota in a gathering that brought together supporters and leaders connected to the environmental agenda. The event also included David Fein, Vice-Chair of The Earthshot Prize, whose vision helped bring the exhibition from Rio to London, strengthening the link between Brazil and the United Kingdom in the search for environmental solutions.

Since its debut in Brazil at the Instituto Tomie Ohtake, the exhibition has gained international exposure by occupying one of the United Kingdom’s leading science museums. By reaching new audiences in the UK, it helps transform visibility into understanding and understanding into action.

By attending the opening in London, Mario Haberfeld highlights this new chapter for the organization. Oncafari is expanding the importance of the Pantanal beyond Brazilian borders and consolidating international partnerships to protect the biome.
