Between the past that endures and the future that begins, something extraordinary happens: nature flourishes when different generations of jaguars cross paths. Flor and Mocoha epitomize this meeting of times, a bond that reflects how conservation allows both old and new stories to thrive side by side.
Flor, a 17-year-old jaguar, is an elder of the forest and one of the first jaguars ever recorded by Onçafari. In 2011, she was still known only as Female 6, but the pattern of her rosettes earned her the name she carries to this day. Over the years, Flor has left a legacy of eight cubs: Lavanda (2012), Margarida and Petúnia (2013), Cravo (2015), Manacá, Mandacaru, and Caraguatá (2020), and Dália (2023). Her long life and legacy are a testament to the impact of conservation projects.
While Flor symbolizes everything that has been built so far, Mocoha represents what is just beginning. He was first seen on June 16th of this year and now, at around nine months old, he is growing strong and healthy by the side of his mother, Aracy. Mocoha comes from a very special lineage: he is the grandson of Isa who, along with her sister Fera, were the first jaguars in the world to be successfully reintroduced into the wild by Onçafari. This means that as we watch his initial steps we are also witnessing the continuation of a landmark achievement in jaguar conservation.
The coexistence of these two stories reveals a simple and powerful truth: conservation projects do more than protect individual animals, they safeguard entire lineages, complete habitats, and a legacy that renews itself with each new season. The past stays alive because the future keeps arriving.
And it is precisely this encounter between generations that inspires this year’s Giving Tuesday campaign. The date celebrates generosity and reinforces the importance of supporting initiatives that transform care into real impact. When you donate to Onçafari, you contribute directly to jaguar monitoring, scientific research, reintroductions, the protection of natural areas, and the actions that allow jaguars like Flor to live many years freely in the wild and cubs like Mocoha to grow and carry the cycle forward.
