Onçafari has been selected as one of the finalists for the 2025 Folha Social Entrepreneur Award, organized by Folha de S.Paulo in partnership with the Schwab Foundation, an entity linked to the World Economic Forum. Established in 2005, this award is the leading recognition in Latin America for innovative and scalable initiatives that promote social and environmental impact. Over the past two decades, it has highlighted more than 170 entrepreneurs and projects working across various fronts of sustainable development in Brazil.
The 21st edition of the award is especially aligned with the key themes of COP30, the global climate conference that will take place in Belém in November 2025. The Folha Social Entrepreneur Award highlights projects offering practical solutions to the challenges Brazil and the world face in the context of climate change and the environmental crisis. Core themes include a just energy transition, biodiversity protection, sustainable use of natural resources, inclusive economic development, and building more resilient cities.
This year, the award is divided into two categories: “Social Entrepreneur of the Year”, focused on established leaders and initiatives, and “Social Innovators of the Year”, which recognizes emerging solutions aligned with the socio-environmental transition. Onçafari is a finalist in this second category.
Onçafari’s nomination underscores the importance of biodiversity conservation as a key pillar of sustainable development in Brazil. Founded in 2011, Onçafari operates across eight pillars, all guided by one central mission: to conserve Brazilian biodiversity through the protection of vast natural areas. To achieve this, it implements integrated strategies that combine applied science, wildlife management, species reintroduction, ecotourism, environmental education, and engagement with landowners and local communities. By linking the protection of Brazilian fauna to the conservation of entire ecosystems, Onçafari promotes the value of nature as a strategic asset, contributing to long-term solutions in ecologically important regions.
