On April 23, for the third year in a row, Bank of America hosted OnçaPartners, the annual event that brings together Onçafariâs partners, board members, and team for an evening dedicated to celebrating the past yearâs achievements and sharing plans for the future. Thiago Fernandes, from Bank of America and Mario Haberfeld, Onçafariâs CEO and founder, who presented key results from the organizationâs recent activities. He highlighted the expansion and structuring of the Forests front, as well as plans to create and maintain large ecological corridors across Brazil. This yearâs edition featured presentations from our valued partners: FleishmanHillard Brasil (Press Relations), and PremieRpetÂź.
To close the evening, attendees received the printed 2024 Annual Report, showcasing highlights from our eight areas of action. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all of our partners and supporters who help us achieve major milestones for the conservation of Brazilâs biodiversity and natural ecosystems. None of this would have been possible without the collaboration and trust of each and every one of you.
The online version of the 2024 Annual Report is available on our website! | | | | The International Seminar on Integrated Fire Management in the Pantanal, held in Campo Grande on April 2nd and 3rd, brought together experts, research institutions, firefighters, civil society organizations, rural producers, and government representatives to discuss collaborative solutions for preventing and combating forest fires, combining traditional knowledge with cutting-edge science. The event, organized by SOS Pantanal, Onçafari, and the Public Prosecutor's Office of Mato Grosso do Sul, provided an important platform for exchanging experiences and strengthening partnerships to address the challenges posed by climate change and the new reality of the Pantanal.
Onçafari was represented by the coordinator of the Anti-Fire Front, Ananda Santa Rosa, whose presentation focused on Integrated Fire Management (IFM) in private areas, using the organizationâs work as a case study. The focus was on the creation of the Anti-Fire Front itself, highlighting Onçafariâs regional impact and the challenges related to the operational costs of fire prevention and control, particularly in 2024. The main achievement mentioned was the development of the Integrated Fire Management Plan (IFMP) for the Santa Sofia Reserve in the Pantanal of Mato Grosso do Sul, which represented a major victory for the organization. Onçafari became a pioneer by being the first NGO in Brazil to implement an IFMP, underscoring its leadership in this field and its commitment to the conservation and responsible management of protected areas.  | | | The Onçafari NextGen is Onçafariâs International Young Ambassadors Program, created to identify and support the next generation of leaders and philanthropists committed to biodiversity conservation. Aimed at young professionals between the ages of 18 and 35 who study or work abroad, the program offers unique opportunities to engage with Onçafariâs mission, including leading awareness and fundraising initiatives for key programs. |
| Participants also gain hands-on experience in philanthropy and conservation, while connecting with a global network of like-minded individuals.
Ben Mirgel is our first NextGen ambassador from Germany. He was in Brazil in April and he visited the Brazilian biomes and Onçafari's areas of operation. See how it went. | | | | Onçafariâs biologists carry out fieldwork in remote and hard-to-reach locations across the Pantanal and other regions of Brazil, where conventional communication is often limited due to the lack of phone signal or Wi-Fi. In these situations, the use of SPOT X, a satellite communicator, becomes essential, as it allows real-time messaging and emergency requests, ensuring the safety of the team in isolated areas. We are grateful to GlobalStar for the donation of three devices, which will be used by our teams in the Amazon, Cerrado, and Pantanal. This support not only strengthens our monitoring capacity but is also a crucial investment in the safety of those working tirelessly to protect Brazilâs wildlife and ecosystems. |
