The year 2024 was a transformative one for Onçafari, filled with significant challenges and extraordinary achievements. Our team grew, our bases expanded, and our commitment to biodiversity conservation became even stronger.

Our growth allowed us to reach new heights. We participated in COP 16 (16th Conference of the Parties on Biological Diversity of the UN) in Cali, Colombia, while expanding our team, and strengthening our international fundraising and presence at strategic events. We held our first Leadership Meeting, aligned strategies for the future, and were recognized with the Best NGOs 2024 Award, placing us among the 100 best organizations in Brazil.

This past year also brought the greatest challenge in our history, with devastating fires exacerbated by extreme drought and high temperatures that ravaged our bases in the Pantanal. Faced with this critical situation, we mobilized all our resources to stop the fire's advance and save as many animals as possible. Each team member played a crucial role, whether by fighting the flames, rescuing and caring for surviving animals, or raising funds for the recovery of our bases and operations. It was our passion for nature, teamwork, dedication and perseverance that allowed us to face and overcome these obstacles, relying on the solidarity and support of many people and institutions.

The end of the year is an opportunity to pause, reflect on the challenges and achievements we have experienced, and prepare for new beginnings. We await 2025 with enthusiasm, hope, and gratitude to each one of you. With this unity and dedication, we will continue to achieve new milestones for conservation in Brazil.

Happy holidays and best wishes for an excellent 2025!

The Pantanal fire crisis hits the screens. Water scarcity and dried vegetation have turned the Pantanal into a flammable terrain, worsening the fires that marked 2024. In response to this emergency, Documenta Pantanal has released a documentary exposing the gravity of the situation and reinforcing the importance of conservation.

Directed by Sandro Kakabadze, the production is supported by institutions such as Acaia Pantanal, Instituto Homem Pantaneiro, Mapbiomas, Onçafari, and SOS Pantanal.

Teamwork and collaboration are essential for nature conservation, as we face complex challenges that require joint and synergistic efforts. Every action in favor of the environment depends on  various professionals, organizations, and communities coming together and bringing different skills, knowledge, and resources to achieve effective results. Throughout the most challenging year for Onçafari, collaboration has once again proven to be a key word!

Conserving biodiversity and Brazilian biomes is undoubtedly a race against time. The accelerated loss of natural habitats, the advance of climate change, along with other threats, put numerous species and ecosystems at risk of extinction. In this emergency scenario, being able to count on the solidarity, competence, and dedication of a great "team of experts," both inside and outside of Onçafari, makes all the difference and brings us great joy!
