One of our areas of focus is species reintroduction, and in 2024, we took an important step in our mission to conserve Brazil's biodiversity by returning another jaguar to its natural habitat. Following the success with the Pantanal sisters Isa and Fera, the Amazon sisters Pandora and Vivara, and young Jatobazinho, it was XamĂŁâs turn.
Still a cub, Xamã was found alone in August 2022, in the municipality of Sinop (Mato Grosso). The chances of survival for a cub without his mother are minimal, so he was rescued and underwent a series of exams before being transferred to Onçafari's enclosure in Jacareacanga, Parå, in January 2023. After nearly two years of rehabilitation and monitoring, Xamã was released into the wild, becoming the first male jaguar to be returned by our team in the Amazon. |
| Five months after his release, good news continues to come in. According to data obtained from his GPS collar, XamĂŁ has already traveled about 13,000 hectares. He has been avoiding open areas and plantations, mostly moving through dense forest, demonstrating his natural instincts.
The inspiring story of his rehabilitation and release was recently shared in the documentary âXamĂŁ â No Rastro da Onçaâ, produced by our partners at World Animal Protection. This achievement symbolizes a milestone not only for Onçafari but also for jaguar conservation in Brazil, highlighting the importance of collective and ongoing efforts to protect the jaguar, one of our country's most iconic species | |

| | On March 12th, the B32 Theater, located in São Paulo, hosted a unique performance of the Solidarity Reading project, aimed at raising funds for Onçafari. The event featured actresses Christiane Fogaça, Silvia Pfeifer, and Helena Ranaldi, who performed a reading of the play "Gata Velha Ainda Mia" by playwright Rafael Primot. Directed by Daniel Alvim, the play explores the female universe, addressing themes including relationship challenges, aging, and the creative process of writers.
In addition to the reading, the event included a pocket show by singer Barbara Ohana. All proceeds from ticket sales were donated to Onçafari, supporting fire prevention and combating efforts in the Pantanal biome. Use of the B32 Theater, known for its impressive architecture and advanced technology, was provided without charge and all those involved in the event, contributed their time and efforts as volunteers.
It was an evening that brought together art, culture, and conservation. | | | Our brave warrior Valente faced one of his greatest challenges when he survived the devastating fires that hit the Pantanal in 2024. The flames, which consumed vast areas of the region, caused immense damage to the local wildlife. Valente was rescued with his four legs severely burned, and our team of biologists and veterinarians immediately sprang into action to provide the necessary care for his recovery. |
| For months, our team tirelessly invested in complementary treatments, using innovative techniques and specialized therapies to alleviate Valente's pain and aid in the healing of his wounds. We knew that the recovery of an animal so severely affected by burns would not be easy, and Valente's healing process was long. However, the perseverance of everyone involved, along with Valente's own strength, has brought remarkable results. This year, with great joy, we can share that the young tapir is doing even better and exceeding expectations! His movement has greatly improved, and he is already performing activities that once seemed impossible. Valente is a true example of resilience, and his recovery is a victory not just for him, but for all who have closely followed his journey. We are incredibly happy and grateful to everyone who contributed to the Recupera Pantanal campaign and is part of the many successes, both large and small, he continues to achieve. | | | We participated in the 9th edition of Parques do Brasil, an event organized by the Instituto Semeia that brought together enthusiasts, experts, and leaders to discuss the potential of tourism in natural parks and the importance of protected areas in the face of climate change. Mario Haberfeld, CEO and founder of Onçafari, took part in the panel "From Fire to Conservation: Protected Areas in Times of Climate Crisis", which covered the landscape of wildfires in Conservation Units and the strategies for fire prevention and combat in protected areas. | | | | Here at Onçafari, being a "Jaguarâs Friend" is a good thing! đ The "Jaguarâs Friend" project is one of the ways to contribute to our social initiatives and biodiversity conservation efforts. Through monthly or one-time donations, you help make a difference for Brazilian species and biomes. | |
