February began with an important milestone in Onçafariâs international trajectory. The opening of the exhibition Water, Pantanal, Fire at the Science Museum placed the Pantanal at the center of one of the United Kingdomâs leading science museums, expanding the global reach of Brazilâs conservation agenda. Created by Documenta Pantanal, curated by Eder Chiodetto, and featuring photographs by Lalo de Almeida and Luciano Candisani, the exhibition transforms images into awareness, highlighting the beauty of the worldâs largest tropical wetland and the growing challenges that threaten this vital ecosystem. By reaching new audiences, it turns visibility into understanding and understanding into action. For Onçafari, which has worked for 15 years to protect wildlife, preserve habitats, and strengthen local communities, being present in London represents a consistent step in the internationalization of Brazilâs biomes, especially the Pantanal. On the evening prior to the opening, Mario Haberfeld attended a gathering at the residence of Ambassador Antonio Patriota, bringing together leaders in environmental philanthropy and strategic partners who support the conservation agenda. | |

On February 19, 2026, the documentary Expedition Artenschutz: Auf der Spur des Jaguars (âOn the Trail of the Jaguarâ in English) premiered in Hamburg, Germany, during a special screening at Botschaft der Wildtiere, an institution dedicated to nature and conservation. The production follows Onçafari ambassador Ben Mirgel on a journey through Brazil in search of the largest feline in the Americas. In 2025, he visited the country on two occasions, documenting our teamâs work, the challenges of protecting the jaguar, and the behind-the-scenes efforts of field conservation. The result is a documentary that brings European audiences closer to the reality of the Amazon and Pantanal and to the stories that drive our mission. The premiere, dedicated to Onçafari, was a great success with a full house and strong audience engagement. Supporting Onçafari is now easier for those outside Brazil. Our website remains the same, but we have taken an important step to expand our global reach: we now offer an international donation platform through our U.S.-registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. With this new feature, supporters living abroad can contribute directly to our conservation projects in a simple and secure way, without the limitations of local banking systems. International donations strengthen our field operations, supporting the conservation of the jaguar, the maned wolf, and countless other species, as well as research initiatives and community education programs. At the Trijunção Base in the Cerrado, a recent sighting of Savanna, our monitored maned wolf, left a strong impression on the team and visitors. Over the course of an afternoon, she was observed moving near the lodge and crossing the road at different times; first roaming the area and later carrying a nine-banded armadillo after a successful hunt. Further on, in an open field and near her den, she was spotted again. This time, she was vocalizing close to the carcass, a form of communication that, at that moment, was likely intended to call her most recent litter. The maned wolf has a varied diet consisting of fruits and small animals playing an essential role in maintaining the balance of the Cerrado. Recently, however, the monitoring of Savanna indicated a different behavior; she spent more time in areas with a higher concentration of deer. The suspicion was confirmed when she was seen carrying the carcass of a young deer back to her den in addition to camera trap records that reinforce the use of this food resource, possibly linked to the growth phase of her pups. Sightings like this, recorded during field activities and ecotourism tours, expand our understanding of her hunting patterns, habitat use, and parental care. Each observation is also an opportunity for education and awareness. By bringing people closer to wildlife in an ethical and monitored way, we strengthen conservation efforts and deepen understanding of the species and the ecosystem it inhabits. | |||
Some people leave marks that transcend time, and Diogo was one of them. His legacy is not only in the work he accomplished, but above all in what he taught: through his daily example, his generosity in sharing knowledge, and his conviction that education can transform the world. It is in this same spirit that we undertake this initiative to ensure the continuity of education for his two children, preserving their opportunities and school routine after the passing of their father in December 2025. All funds raised will be allocated exclusively to the childrenâs tuition. This is an independent campaign, supported by Onçafari, joining a network of people who wish to honor Diogoâs legacy through a concrete gesture of care and solidarity.
